Liquid through to Antwerp Major; Case eliminate Isurus

Only one more spot at PGL Major Antwerp is on offer to the Americas via the 6-8th place decider bracket.

The fifth team to qualify for PGL Major Antwerp has been determined following the conclusion of day three of the Americas RMR in Romania, with Liquid coming out on top of a two-map series against Evil Geniuses to lock in their spot in the Challengers Stage.

Making it through via the 3-1 pool allows Liquid to breathe a sigh of relief after they kicked off the Major-qualifying event in shaky form, dropping their opening series against 00NATION before stabilizing and cruising through their remaining matches. For Jake "⁠Stewie2K⁠" Yip, the grudge match against his former team ends in heartbreak as Evil Geniuses will now not only need to win their next match against Party Astronauts, but will then need to fight through the 6-8th place decider bracket, where all three 3-2 teams will play for one final spot in Antwerp.

Meanwhile, Case saw to the elimination of Isurus to keep their own hopes of securing the final spot on offer at the Major alive, beating the Brazilian-Argentine side 2-0 thanks to indomitable defenses on Mirage and Overpass.

Liquid are through to the Challlengers Stage of the Major

Liquid kicked off their series against Evil Geniuses in dominant form, racing to a 9-1 lead on Vertigo in a series of rounds that included a 2vs5 recovery from Josh "⁠oSee⁠" Ohm and Keith "⁠NAF⁠" Markovic. EG managed to keep themselves in the running by coming out on top of a number of clutch situations at the end of the half, putting up six rounds, but once the sides swapped over Liquid were back in control as they raced to a 16-9 finish.

An inspired showing from Timothy "⁠autimatic⁠" Ta helped Evil Geniuses turn the tides at the onset of Inferno, garnering an early lead as Liquid were unable to consistently put a halt to EG's entry attempts into bombsites. Towards the end of the half though, NAF was the difference-maker in a handful of rounds as Liquid put a halt to the streak, posting five rounds in a row before carrying momentum into the second half to extend their lead to 11-7. EG made an effort to keep themselves in the map, but Liquid remained unrelenting as they kept up the pressure to close out the map in short order.

Meanwhile, Case wasted little time in dispatching of Isurus, although it seemed like the series would be a much more contentious affair at the onset as Isurus took an early lead. Case kept the scoreline close in the first half, trailing by just one round heading into the side swap, but they put up a stalwart defense once on the CT side as they won nine rounds in a row to slam the door on Isurus' chances on the map.

Overpass was a similarly one-sided affair as Case kept up a impenetrable defense, Rodrigo "⁠RCF⁠" Figueiredo and Lucas "⁠steel⁠" Lopes leading the way in an absolutely crushing 13-2 first half scoreline. Isurus made an effort to rally back into the map on their own CT effort, but the lopsided scoreline of the first half proved too tall a mountain to overcome as Case eventually closed out the map 16-9.
